Happy Monday darlings! I hope everyone is staying warm in this winter weather! Over the weekend I kind of came to a realization about myself. I'm a little rough around the edges. I guess you could say that's what gives me character and uniqueness, and believe me, I'm well aware of that. I'm always having to remind people that I'm different than most ladies my age. I don't fall into the many trends that are out there and have a stronger connection to my faith and soul. I feel almost like a modern age hippie. I'm more focused on creating and releasing positive energy and making sure those who are around me know I love and care for them. But with that said, I'm also turning 23 next month and feel that I need to transition from plain Jane to a stylish, feminine young woman. So, I'm challenging myself to revamp myself and become the amazing woman I'm destined to be, from the inside out!
Take a look at some of the finds that I believe will help me gracefully embrace my feminine side...because I can't lay around in sweats and top knots for the rest of my life!

HAIR : Half Up Crown Braid (via Missy Sue)
I normally keep my hair in a middle part and bone straight or a top knot/chignon. Wearing my hair like that everyday can get pretty boring, so later in the week I plan on trying the casual, yet feminine half up crown braid.
BODY: Coffe & Sugar Body Scrub (via Freutcake)
Even though I'm only in my early twenties, now is the perfect time to start taking steps to help improve and preserve my skin. Throughout my junior high, high school, and even a few of my college years, I really struggled with acne (and it's scarring), dry skin, and other imperfections. As of recently, I've really tried to take strides in changing how I treat my body-- specifically exfoliating. Coffee is known to help with cellulite, and even though I'm blessed to not have any quite yet, I plan to take every precaution to keep it that way! Plus, this winter weather isn't doing much for my skin. I'm in serious need of some type of exfoliant!
STYLE: Lacy Intimates & Chunky Sweaters
I've had a few days when I felt really good just because I wore my fancy underwear that day. Undies can definitely make you feel good. I only have a few pairs of lacy undies, but I definitely plan to invest in my underwear draw a bit more in the near future!
And even though I'm getting in touch with my feminine side a bit more doesn't mean I can't enjoy a good chunky, cable knot sweater as well. Lacy bralettes + chunky knit sweaters = perfect combination.
FITNESS: Nike Roshe Run
Look ladies, guys aren't the only ones who get to have fun with their gym sneakers. These grey and neon green Nike Roshe Run sneakers will definitely be finding their way onto my feet very, very soon. I mean, how could I not want to plank, squat, and run in these sneakers?! Plus, the better I look in the gym, the better I feel! And believe me, starting today, I'm going to get my body fit and toned!
I've always been super particular about my eyes. When I first got contacts, it took my nearly an hour to put them on at the doctor's office. To this day, I still can't put eye drops in my eyes. So eyeline...eh, not really my thing. But a few years back, I picked up a liquid liner from Rite-Aid, found a pin about it, and gave myself my first (and decent I might add) winged liner. I don't waer much make up as it is, but I think I could easily incorporate a brown liner and nude lip into my everyday routine. Baby steps, people. Baby steps.
So give your Monday a feminine touch by adding a simple winged eye into your make up routine or do something new with your tresses. Have a great day!
Happy Monday loves! Many of us are taking advantage of the day off, but take a moment to reflect on the man, Martin Luther King, Jr., we're celebrating and just what he and many others have and still sacrifice. And if you have some time, head to theaters and check out the movie SELMA. I've heard great things about it!
While you're enjoying yourself, take a moment and see I've found while scouring the internet over the weekend! This week's #MondayMusings is all about jewelry. Classic, everyday pieces you can style however!
engraved bar necklace // nixon watch // monogram bracelet //dainty initial necklace // hippie hoop earrings //
arm party //christoph bracelet // cuff bracelet
When it comes to jewelry, I'm about as simple as they come. I wear my engraved bar necklace every single day ( yes, I shower in it!) and will usually throw on a pair of diamond studs or gold hoops. But as my interest in fashion grows and I mature each year, I've realized I need to incorporate more pieces into my collection.
I decided, in order to grow my collection, I've got to start with classic pieces I can build around. Gold is my favorite material to wear and I'm a sucker for personalization (it's the Southern woman in me). A classic timepiece like the Nixon watch above is the perfect starting piece. Just think, instead of relying on your cell phone to tell you the time, you can look down at your wrist and see a beautiful timeless peace.
And once if you're not into watches, but still crave some arm decor, try stacking different size and style bracelets. Be sure to throw a personalized one in there to give your arm party a touch of uniqueness.
Now, if you're like me and you rock one piece, and one piece only, try a dainty initial necklace or a pair of gold hoops. Either piece can be paired with just about anything, so you'll always look good!
Best of luck jewelry shopping! How do you like to style your pieces?
It's always been said that "beach bodies are made during the winter". And if you really think about that phrase, it's so true! Depending on where you live, you've got a good 2-3 months, sometimes more, when you're practically swaddled in scarves, sweaters, and parkas! And of course we could all just eat and hibernate until Spring arrives, but then we'd strain ourselves trying to get fit for bikin weather. Why not create your bikini bod during the winter months? It's not like you'll have to rush to spinning class to find a bike or anything lol!
With an two pending visits to Mexico later this year, I've decided I've got to get myself into shape! In all honesty, I don't make time to work out everyday. But on the days I do, I take time out to do a few reps of a shirt circuit and take part in the all to famous #30daychallenge!
If you've ever seen some of my style posts (more are coming soon!!) you've seen my frail arms. I mean, I'm 5'9" (on a good yoga day) so my arms are a little long and wimpy. It just comes with the territory I guess. So instead of whining about my toothpick arms, I decided to find a beginner's arm workout circuit! This circuit consists of 5 different exercises that target the group of muscles in your arms and it only takes you 30 seconds to complete!
But since I'm looking to enhance my lackluster backside, I usually do the Malibooty Workout from ToneItUp.com at least three times a week! If you haven't had a chance to check out their website, you should do so, ASAP. A plethora of workouts and healthy lifestyle meals, tips, and suggestions!
And lastly, the 30 day squat challenge. I swear to you, I start one at the beginning of each month but can never complete it! Grrr! Priorities, Margo! Priorities! I mean, come one, I can hang out poolside in sunny Mexico if my bikini bottoms don't have much to hold on to (if you get my drift).
Dear 30 day challenge,
I may be 8 days behind, but I'm coming back for you. You can bet your bottom dollar on that!
If squats aren't your thing, do a quick internet search for more 30 day challenges or put one together yourself! You won't regret it!
So while January and the Polar vortex rear their ugly heads, bundle up and make your way over to the nearest gym and start working on your summer body! Sun's out, guns out! Sunny skies, show ya thighs!!
Yikes! It's been over a week since I've had the opportunity to blog. Let's just say, 2015 is really on a roll. I'm back in the office and still prepping for the GMAT (round 2) and getting ready to submit my grad school apps at the end of the month. Things are beyond hectic since the students are on their way back. Mayhem seems to be a more appropriate word to use. I mean, I did sleep for 13 hours after I got off work on Friday...
So this week, I'm bracing myself for the storm and really trying to get my life together in every aspect (spiritually, physically, and relationally). To kick the week off, let's get back to this blog's roots and check out what's caught my eye! #MondayMusings are below!!
Ran across this coat on The Sweetest Thing Blog (she's got some MAJOR style!!) and thought it would be one of those great staple pieces to have in my closet! Sometimes the winter can get a little dreary with all the grey clouds and bleak grounds, so why not add a pop of color? Plus, this seems like a great Spring transitional piece! Did I mention, it's on sale for only $46???
*After reading the reviews, I decided to order a size L just to make sure the sleeves would be long enough. Also, I plan to wear it with a chunky knit sweater since the fabric isn't as thick (per reviews).
Beige Leather Skirt
Because who said all leather had to be black? Scrolling through Crystalin Marie's blog (I swear we're style twins) and found this beauty! And yes, they offer it in black for those of you who aren't quite sure you can pull off the beige. This H&M skirt is a little on the pricey side ($99) but once again, it seems like a great investment piece. I could easily pair this with my favorite chambray shirt and a pair of pumps and be on my way to work or drinks afterward.
We all know I'm new to the style game, but even I know these shoes are killer. I'll be purchasing these bad boys really soon.
POINT. BLANK. PERIOD.
Less Waiting. More Doing.
We're only 12 days into 2015, so go ahead and get whatever it is that's nagging you, done! Reports for work, papers for school, test prep and applications (in my case), starting that new exercise circuit, cutting a few inches off. Just go ahead and do it when you first feel the urge. Just think, even if you do cut your bangs, they'll grow back!! Let's hop to it this year and strive to tackle out biggest goals and fears!
Here's a recipe I'll be trying in February via Lauren's Latest! Want to gift the gift of love? Can you bake? Give these cute, homemade Valentine's Day heart cookies a try!
So happy to be back on the blog again! Sharing a few more things this week like : my current exercise circuit and daily devotionals. Plus, I'll continue to update you all on my green smoothie challenge and how to pack a lunch for all of my worker bee readers!
Happy New Year loves!! First, I'd like to say "THANK YOU" to every single one of you who reads my blog. It's safe to say both myself and the blog have definitely grown over these past 7 months! From rambling on about current events, to venturing into the fashion/style realm, to gradually getting the hang of this whole blogging thing. T H A N K Y O U !!
With a new year comes new resolutions (check the December archives to view mine!) Myself, like many other individuals indulged a little too bit much over the holidays. Lots of cookies, cakes, side dishes, and more cookies! And since I don't have access to a 24/7 student recreation center (college days past swiftly, don't they?) I've definitely been slacking on my yoga and work out regimen. So, for about the past 2 weeks, I've been trying to figure out just how I plan to get my tail into shape. Literally!
Between the internet, workout videos and examples, Pinterest boards, and even a little bit of Instagram (not super reliable but great for taking you to internet links!), I've figured out just how I plan to achieve a toned, fit body in time for my upcoming trips to MEXICO and PUERTO RICO this summer!
It's always been said that exercise means nothing if you don't eat right. In order for me to even get in the ball park of my desired figure, I have to fuel my body with nutrients! That means lots of healthy fats, lean protein, and a TON of fresh fruits and vegetables.
I stumbled over Simple Green Smoothies on IG and decided to join their 30 day challenge. I mean, if I'm going to get more fruits and veggies, I may as well be able to down them a bit easier, right? I signed up, got all the details and created my first "real" green smoothie this morning!!
(find this recipe in the RECIPE tab)
frozen banana // spinach // pineapple // mango // kale
Take a moment to check out Simple Green Smoothies and their fresh, healthy smoothies!
