Happy Sunday loves! I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving weekend and partook in the plethora of holiday season sales. But first, let me apologize for not posting my Thanksgiving Day side dish and dessert recipes. Whenever I flake on a blog post, I feel really bad. It's something I've put on my New Year Resolution list and will be working on very diligently!
This past week really flew by and was filled with family, food, and getting into the holiday spirit.
Wednesday I came home and whipped up some awesome pumpkin cookies (find the recipe under the RECIPE tab)!! I frosted them with a tangy cream cheese buttercream frosting and sprinkled on a little bit of cinnamon sugar. Sidenote: If you you let the cookies set a few days, they taste just like pumpkin pie!!
Instead of joining the flocks of people out Christmas shopping, mom and I decided to go get a Christmas tree instead. We haven't had a live Christmas tree in our house for years and truthfully, I've been a little salty about it. (Here is the Urban Dictionary definition if you're unfamiliar with the word "salty". See #2 and #3.) Growing up as a child, mom always got a LIVE tree. Once my brother was born we opted for the artificial kind -- for safety reasons obviously. But, with my optimistic thinking and dutiful prayers, I convinced my mom that we absolutely NEEDED a live tree since this would be my last Christmas at home with the family. It worked. And we split the cost on an 8 foot Fir. Thanks mom! But the most exciting part of this whole shopping trip was me driving home with it tied to the top of my mini SUV. Now I know what it actually feels like to drive the speed limit! Hazard lights were in full affect!
And finally, upon arriving home after our Christmas tree hunt, I turned all my attention to the online sales. Not sure if it was just me, but I was SLAMMED with Black Friday shopping deals via email. As I'm typing this post, I have 28 more just sitting in my inbox waiting to be opened and fawned over. Sorry Best Buy, Amazon, Ebay, GAP, Necessary Clothing, LuLu's, Target, and everyone else. I am officially tapped out. No more shopping until mid-December. My bank account won't allow it. However, I can't lie, I was able to get all of my family some pretty awesome gifts! If you're still on the hunt for gifts, be sure to check out my blog roll (in the sidebar). A lot of my favorite bloggers have put together some great gift lists and linked the sale items! (I don't have any this year because I'm not nearly as savvy as my fave bloggers lol)
And to top the weekend off, I stayed home (why, Lord?! WHY?!) and watched my Alma Mater handle business against Auburn. If you don't watch Alabama football, you're missing out. Well, maybe not. The games definitely raise your blood pressure, so if you're on any type of pressure medication, you might want to -- I'm joking. Only kidding!! I actually recommend watching tons of Alabama football. Lots of winning going on. But yes, we won the Iron Bowl and we're headed to Atlanta for the SEC championship game against Missouri. So ROLL TIDE!!
I hope everyone enjoys today! Get into the holiday spirit and get excited about life!! My family will be trimming the tree tonight, so stop by the blog tomorrow (I promise I'll post a Monday Musing and pics of the tree) for a glimpse!
It's mid-day and I'm just now updating the blog! No Monday Musings today, but I am excited to recap my weekend for you all! Once I leave work on Friday evening, I have absolutely no intentions of leaving the house until the next Monday morning. And on Saturdays I'm tucked in bed under the covers watching BPL soccer or headed to a puppy training class at PetSmart. But instead of being cooped up in the house all weekend long, I actually stayed out quite a bit.
Good Afternoon loves!! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. Another Monday has rolled around, so let's make this one memorable !! I've got a laundry list of things to do today, but you know I always have time to share some of the things that catch my eye.
The perfect cat eye // Cleopatra // Hand-lettering // Meaningful Quotes // Rajah Flats // Green Bean Casserole //
Cat Eye: With the holiday party season right vastly approaching , perfecting the classic "cat eye" eye liner is essential. It gives you a classy look with a hint of sexy.
Cleopatra: I started watching this movie (starring Elizabeth Taylor) this past Friday night. It's a doozy, lasting 4 hours, so I advise you to watch it on a Saturday or Sunday morning... or any time you don't feel like you're going to fall asleep!
Hand-lettering: Apparently hand-lettering is making a come back. I've been seeing it everywhere and I'm tempted to try it.
Meaningful Quotes: Don't you love it when you come across a quote that describes your situation perfectly? I've been coming across them a lot lately, so I'm sure it's a sign of something good to come.
Rajah Flats: Are these not the cutest shoes? I love the embroidery detail on the back of the shoe. Purchase them here.
Green Bean Casserole: Since I'm living at home with my family this year, I think I'll contribute to the Thanksgiving spread by fixing up this delicious green bean casserole. Fresh green beans (not canned) are my absolute favorite vegetable to eat! My family doesn't like them so much, but this dish looks too good to pass up!
I hope this mid-Monday pick me up helps you get through the rest of your day. Tell me what's caught your eye recently in the comments section. I'd love to know!
Well I hope everyone is enjoying the last little bit of the weekend! It was definitely needed. Here are a few pics of what's been going on in my life as of lately via my iPhone camera roll!!
Picked up this book a few months ago and just now finding time to read it. So far so good.
Bought my new Firebird ukulele off of Amazon back in August and I'm just now taking it out of the box. Learning how to play should be really fun.
Me and this handsome fellow after his puppy training class on Saturday. He did SO well!!
This is the best shot of my leopard skirt + denim shirt combo. More details in a later post.
FINALLY snagged this book last weekend at Books A Million. I've been reading Cupcakes and Cashmere since I was a junior in college, so it was about time I picked up her book. Can't wait for her next one!!
I hope you all got a chance to read part 1 of my GMAT experience! I'll be posting part 2 later this week as I pick my books back up and start prepping for the GMAT exam once again starting this week. Also, if you haven't yet, follow me on Instagram and Twitter (click the icon/link) in the sidebar!!
Have a fantastic week loves!!
As many of you know, I took some time off from blogging to study for the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test). I recently graduate from The University of Alabama 6 months ago, and I really didn't know what to do afterwards. Yes, I have a BS in Commerce and Administration (Marketing) but I don't have enough work experience to get a job out of state or at a well known company. So, I did the responsible thing. I rested for nearly 3 months scouring the internet for jobs and submitted countless resumes and applications to companies I never heard back from. "Go to college" they said..."You'll be able to get a job" they said... (insert major side eye here).
Finally, in early August, I heard back from a local university about a desk position that opened up. I went in for the interview, got the job and started working August 4th. Now, I can not complain about anything. I am extremely blessed to have a job with benefits and great coworkers. Seriously, we have a ball in the office. And even though I had to move back into my parents' house, it hasn't been bad at all. But don't think for a second that I plan on staying here another year. I still have about half of my stuff from my college apartment packed up in boxes and suitcases. And all those packed boxes and suitcases are motivation for me.
I guess it had to have been my junior year in college when I started thinking about graduate school, specifically earning a MBA (Masters of Business Administration). Even before I submitted my application to college, I was set on earning a graduate degree in Sports Management, but that died down once I found out my school didn't offer any sports management undergraduate courses. But hey, it's still an option. But that elusive MBA really caught my eye. Just having a full functioning understanding of every piece of the business world...gosh. How can you go wrong? An when I found out about entrepreneurship concentrations, there was no looking back. I had to find a university with a MBA program, each with a concentration in either entrepreneurship or some are of marketing. So, they search was on.
Hello loves!! I hope everyone is keeping warm as this Arctic Blast makes its way across the country! This frigid weather is definitely helping bring in the start of the holiday season. So today, I decided to create my Christmas Wish List for this year. Honestly, ever since I left for college four years ago, I haven't really wanted much for Christmas. I guess because my mind was beginning to shift from being young and selfish, to young and mature. So this year, I'm focusing less on myself and more on my family, close friends, and those in need.
As you can see above, I really only want three things for Christmas: an ESV Journaling Bible, a US passport, and to purchase my blog domain name. And if there'e a little left in the budget, I've got my eye on this Crosley vinyl record player.
Happy Wednesday! I'm pretty sure almost everyone is experiencing this crazy Arctic Freeze that's making it's way across the continental US. It's finally creeping down here and it will be below freezing by late tonight. I mean, I know I've been begging for Fall weather for a while now so I can layer up and throw on my chunky boots, but I didn't ask for an ARCTIC FREEZE!! Lucky for us, it'll just be cold, no snow or ice. But because the temperature are dipping, we're figuring out what to do with our four month old German Shepard puppy, Steeler.
Steeler is now a little more than 4 months old and he is amazing. He's got such a big personality and he's ridiculously bold! We've got him in puppy training classes right now, so his behavior is getting better, little by little.
We got Steeler this past August when he was just 6 weeks old. He was so tiny and fluffy!! However, because he was so young, it's taken a lot of time for us to teach him how to behave and for him to get situated with us as his new family. My mom always says Steeler thinks I'm his "litter mate". And by litter mate, she means just that. Here's the story. When he was about 7 weeks old, I laid down in the living room floor and roller around with him for a few minutes. His little puppy paws got tangled up in my hair and he was literally having a ball. Unbeknownst to me, I was "acting" like a litter mate. Ever since then, Steeler thinks I'm his sister and not one of his owners.
But back to this weather and taking care of puppy... Mom and I went out to PetSmart last night and picked up a new crate for Steeler. When Steeler stands on his hind legs, he can reach my ribs. I'm 5'8", so he's already nearly as long as half of my total height. And he's only 4 months!! When we brought the crate home, naturally, he was a little apprehensive about his new indoor home. His new crate is so big, I could almost fit inside of it. But we had to make sure it was big enough for puppy (that's what we call him) to stretch out and sleep well. Check out the pictures below of the cutest, sweetest, biting-est puppy you've ever seen.
Addicted to belly rubs.
Long walks in the neighborhood.
Enjoys car rides now. (It took him forever to get use to them!)
Getting cozy in his new crate/kennel.
And still nibbling on my fingers. Don't let those baby teeth fool you! The can slice and dice!!
Wish us luck as we try to figure out how to all survive under one room over the next few days, and for the rest of the Fall/Winter season!! Keep warm loves and I'll see you back here tomorrow!
