Style. Everyone has it. It's what makes us unique. I prefer outfits (like the one above) for everyday wear. It's relaxed and comfy, yet still makes sense. That's how I'd describe my style-- relaxed and comfy, yet still makes sense. I like to have pieces that fit together. Think of it like a puzzle. All the pieces fit together effortlessly. I guess that's another way to describe my style-- effortless. Not in the sense that it just all fell together that way without any thought, but in the sense that the pieces, after much thought, coordinate quite nicely.
Now, I don't own a single Item in the picture above (Thanks Pinterest!), but I plan on purchasing and incorporating these same items into my wardrobe soon enough. Let me take a second to define my style evolution.
I don't think I've ever really had a sense of fashion. Don't get me wrong here, I enjoy reading the 700 page September VOGUE issue, but realistically, I could never imagine myself wearing some of the intense pieces shown in the numerous editorial spreads they show. Structured pieces, neon colors, feathers and whatever else you can imagine some of today's supermodels posing in aren't really my thing. I've learned over these past twenty some odd years is that fashion fades (and then reemerges, i.e., the Birkenstocks above), but style is what you make it. It's your own!
I remember, in high school, I was good and happy wearing an American Eagle hoodie, jeans, and Sperry Topsiders. Literally, once it hit October, that was my daily uniform. And when it warmed up again, I'd be in either capris or bermuda shorts, a pastel Ralph Lauren polo with my Dooney & Burke bucket bag, backpack, and once again...those Topsider Sperrys. If I was feeling fancy, I'd wear these floral print Nike Air Force ones (please, hold your laughter until the end).
My style didn't really develop until about my sophomore year of college. Now mind you, my mom to this day still likes to shop for me. She's slowly beginning to understand what my personal style is, but we're not quite there yet. Once I saw how people dressed for class, parties, and football games, I kind of figured I'd resort back to my comfy and relaxed look, but with an upgrade.
Comfy jeans, simple shift dresses, and fun loafers/sandals are what I crave! I'm constantly searching for pieces like these to fill my closet with!
All black outfits are so sultry and sophisticated to me. I haven't had the chance to wear an all black outfit but I'm planning to incorporate some into my wardrobe this fall once I go to work. Monochromatic is definitely my style! Ha! Forgot to tell you guys, I got offered a job yesterday!! Whoo hoo! I'll tell you all more info soon.
Let's not forget about all white outfits either! I feel like you are seriously confident in your style once you can wear all white at any point in the year. There is such a thing as winter white!!
I've always shied away from prints and patterns but now, with so many funky and stylish patterns, I plan to give them a go. Especially if they're anything like these shift dressed.
Stick around as I chronicle my style evolution (once I start getting paid lol) here on the blog and on Pinterest! *No I'm not addicted to Pinterest, I'm just an avid Pinner.*
I hope everyone gets to check out today's USA vs. Germany World Cup game! If we win, draw or have a higher point differential over Portugal and Ghana, we're through to the round of 16! GO USA!!!
