Hello loves! It's been a moment since I've posted but I'm back now. I recently participated in 21 days of prayer and fasting with my church and feel completely refreshed! I'm not spiritually or physically fit enough to participate in a total (food) fast, but I do participate in a soul/media fast quite often. Along with concentrated prayer for 21 days, I also fasted social media (Instagram to be exact) and secular music for 21 days. It was very refreshing and really cleared my mind, which in turn allowed a deeper connection with The Lord. Even though I just completed the fast one week ago, I still feel like I'm fasting at times (which is a good thing for me!). But now, I'm really trying to not fall into my former ways-- consumed with social media every hour of the day and skipping past the worship songs on my playlist! So, if you're like me, I've got a few tips to help you continue to seek The Lord even after you've finished your fast.
1. Freshen up your worship and bible study experience.
Instead of listening to the studio version of your favorite worship songs, search for live performances and covers of the song. Live performances can lead to spontaneous worship and give new life to songs.
And a favorite way of mine to read the bible is "popcorn" reading. You and friends pick a book of the Bible and select a specific chapter. Each persons reads a verse and explains what it means to the group. I'm in a Bible Study GroupMe with some of my sorority sisters and we're currently making our way through Isaiah!
2. Seek more sermons!
Thank God for technology! Lots of churches now have online campuses and stream their messages online. It's not necessarily a substitute for not attending church, but more or less of a way for individuals to experience church when they're not able to attend. For example: I've only recently begun to research more about Hillsong Church. Since the closest campus is in New York, I tend to watch their Sydney, Australia services Sunday night (they live stream on Saturday nights at 6:30 pm CT in the US). Take some time to search online for a church with online services. It's a great way to experience a fresh message!
3. Devote time to spend with The Lord.
I know we all live hectic, fast-paced lives, but we have to set out time to spend with The Lord. He craves us whole-heartedly, so we must give Him our time. And not just on Sundays. Find a bible study group, develop your own bible study, or try journaling. The Lord has blessed each and every single one of us with so much in life. It's vital that we talk to Him and thank him. He definitely wants to have a full-blown conversation with us! Try have a quick praise and worship session during your lunch break, pray constantly through out the day, or set up a quiet time for yourself so you can talk with Him and accept what He has to offer us. If you find yourself restless at night (like myself!), roll over and look at the ceiling and chat with The Lord. Once you're done, you'll more than likely fall asleep peacefully. Trust me, I've experienced it.
Even though we've completed our time of fasting, you can still do few things to keep you on track!
