Devotionals are what literally get me through my day! The best thing about devotionals is the fact you can read them throughout the entire day for a quick spiritual boost. As of right now, I use FIVE devotional apps daily. I know it sounds like a lot, but I really just crave The Word. Each devotional is completely different from the other and brings a different perspective to view.
I start my day of with Church of the Highland's (my local church) One Year Bible app. It's the perfect way to read the Bible more frequently and it hits on some of the more prominent areas of the Bible (Psalms & Proverbs). It typically takes me about 10 minutes to finish the readings. I try to stay as focused as possible with each passage so I know I'm really understanding and retaining The Word.
Next, I shift to the Devotion app. I like this app because it offers both an A.M. and P.M. devotional! Plus, it's easy to read and each verse is followed by a realistic explanation/discussion. I've only started using this one, but it's become a regular! It even has some fun Bible Trivia and options to like, bookmark, and share the day's devotional verse.
Hitting the half way mark, I always enjoy reading Today's Word from Joel & Victoria Osteen. If you've only got time for one devotional, this would be a great option for you. Each day, Joel & Victoria share a verse and accompanying devotional message. Not only do I read the message on my iPhone and iPad, I also have them sent to my email so I can print the ones I like the most and post around my desk for positive reinforcement. Also, if you're one that gets sidetracked when it comes to devotional reading, this app saves the messages from the previous day!
On the home stretch, I take a moment to check out what Australian based Hillsong Church has going on. I found Hillsong through their world-known music and watched a few of their church services over the past month or so. It's amazing to see so many people fired up for Jesus! Their app is jam packed with music, messages, social media posts, and tons more. I've been reading the most recent devotional by Past Brian Houston and it really pulls you in! And as a plus-since I'm not on Australian time (they're 17 hours ahead of my central time zone)- I usually watch a message from Hillsong TV on Thursday nights at 8:30 pm on TBN (check your local listings and Hillsong Church website).
And rounding my 5 daily devotionals is the ever versatile and fulfilling YouVersion Bible App. This was the FIRST app I downloaded onto my phone when I started to get serious about my faith. It provides a daily verse, tons of devotional and reading plans to choose from, the options to highlight, bookmark, and make notes on verses, and gives you the option to share what you're doing within the app with others. If I could only have one app on my phone, THIS WOULD BE IT!!
You don't have to be like me and use 5 devotional apps each morning! Simply find an app that works best for you and USE IT! It will only help you form a better relationship with The Lord if you dedicate time and effort to digging deep into The Word.
*All of the apps above are available from The Apple App store (for free). Be sure to check the app store for your device if you're interested in downloading them.
