It's amazing what spending time with others Christian believers can do for you! Through Church of the Highlands, I've given my life to The Lord, been water baptized, and now joined a small group to further grow my relationship with Christ. Even after a long week, there's something about going to small group each Wednesday evening. Last Wednesday, Pastor Brain Houston of Hillsong Church (Australia) was the night's speaker and man, did he bring a good message.
Speaking on Romans 8:28, Pastor Houston really poured out a message that I believe most all of us need to hear.
"And we know that for those who love God ALL THINGS work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose".
Pastor Houston mentioned how the good+bad, ups+downs, love+heartache, and every else in life work together for good. This message didn't click in my mind until returning home from small group Wednesday night. The past few days were just some of those days when everything that could go wrong, did. Three near possible car wrecks, constant tension between myself and others, not to mention shutting the door on past relationships, and built up anger and frustration consumed the first three days of my week. All of this had happened by Tuesday. You're probably wondering how I handled it...if you want to know whether or not I broke down and cried, OF COURSE I DID! But after journaling in my Bible, praying about it, spilling my issues to those who would listen/console, and gathering with my small group, this message of All Things hit me like a brick.
No matter what I have to go through in life, there are a few certain things I have to remember:
1) God already knew this was going to happen
2) The storm always runs out of rain
3) Ultimately, whatever it is that I am going through, God is using it all for good
It seems like a pretty simple concept, but it's hard to grasp when you think you're suffering through a bad day, week, month, year, etc. But the take away is this: God has plans to HELP you and not harm you. He has unimaginably amazing things that we could never even think of planned for our lives. All we have to do is trust in His plan and continue to believe in Him and keep focused on His purpose.
