Last day of the year and I finally give you all a post after being MIA for two months! Welp, life happens!
2016 has definitely been a whirlwind. It may have been one of the weirdest years for humanity, but it was by far one of the best years I've ever experienced.
It's so cool thinking that this time last year I was hanging out in Palm Springs, California and roaming around downtown Los Angeles taking in the sights. Obviously I did all the touristy things, but I still had a blast.
After beginning the year in California, I made my way back South to celebrate Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Watching the mini parades move throughout the French Quarter was so much fun, not to mention that ten pounds I gained while I was down there. If you;re a food, you need to get down there!
Once I returned home from all my travels, things slowed down a bit. I was still on the hunt for a job and prepping to take the GRE so I could submit applications to graduate programs. Plus, I got to dig in a bit deeper at church by serving in childrens' church regularly. Even though I was content at where I was in life, I knew I was destined for something more.
And then, it came! It was one of those scenarios where everything good happened all at once. I accepted a new job to tide me over until classes began, was invited to interview for another job out in Houston, and was admitted to my new two year grad program. And to be honest, it's only gotten better since then!
I worked all summer and saved everything I could so I could get back to Tuscaloosa for school. I mean, ya'll, I signed a lease for the first time without a guarantor, put utilities in my name, and officially moved out of my parent's house!
Once September rolled around school was in full swing. I have to admit, the transition phase was pretty hard for me to handle. I was doing everything on my own. Maintaing my own place, being financially responsible, taking advantage of all the opportunities and activities graduate school provides, and just staying sane was a lot harder than I thought it would have been. Honestly, the struggle was definitely worth it. I found out that I'm much stronger than I ever knew I could be! I took on new challenges and said "yes" for more than I ever would have in the past.
Despite 2016 being that one year we'd like to black out of the history books with a Sharpie marker, it was one heck of a year for me! So here's to 2017-- new experiences, new challenges, new adventures!
Yes, the photo above is of a Chipotle burrito. This my dear friends is the first Chipotle burrito I've had in months. And to be honest, it's all because of the good Man upstairs. As most of you know, I've been in a dry season for some time now, but this week was by far the best week I've had in a very long time!
I started the week with an awesome church service. You can watch it here. Monday morning I got an email in regards to a new job opportunity and Tuesday afternoon all my accounts balanced out, allowing me to grab my chicken burrito with exact change! Come Wednesday,I finalized some major details for a few new projects I'm working on, Thursday afternoon I had an awesome job interview, and today a new blog I created with a good friend of mine went live!
All in all, this week really showed me that The Lord works everything together for good. (Romans 8:28). I've listened to a few podcasts this week that really resonated with me and struggling. Sometime God will bring you pain, hardships, and struggle just to bring you closer to Him. He doesn't hurt us because He's mean. He doesn't hurt us because He gets a kick out of it. Like the quote says, "You never know God is all you need, until God is all you have".
Struggle is real, there's no doubt about that. How we choose to handle the struggle is how we get through it! Instead of sulking about and magnifying the problem, why not give it to God? Take all your troubles and trials, lay them at the feet of The Lord, and watch Him handle it.
So, with all of that said, I hope and pray you all will have an amazing week like I recently had very soon! Remember, to always #celebratethesmallwins!
