The travel bug has bitten me, ya'll! I took my FIRST flight this summer to Michigan to visit my former college roommate and sorority sister in Ann Arbor and spent an entire week there. Needless to say, I loved every bit of it. As many of you know (check my bio if you don't!), I've been living with my parents for the past year since college graduation. Taking this weeklong trip was exactly what I needed!
After being picked up at DTW (Detroit), we headed straight to breakfast at The Broken Egg! I'm sort of a foodie, and a good, large breakfast is my favorite kind of meal. I grabbed the cinnamon roll pancakes, scrambled eggs w/cheese, and bacon. I don't stray too far from simple, but being on vacation calls for trying new things! The cinnamon roll pancakes were to die for!!
After breakfast, Aeriel took my to Kerrytown, a small suburb of Ann Arbor, and the downtown Ann Arbor. The whole area has so much character! I know this sounds weird, but this area looked like a movie set. Like those nice houses (not mansions or anything) you see people living in in the movies. Think of the setting of Mean Girls? It's definitely a walkable area! They have cute little markets, speciality shops, and eateries.
The really cool thing about Ann Arbor is the fact that they take pride in authenticity. The only franchise companies I saw in the downtown area were Chipotle, 7 Eleven, Urban Outfitters, Rite-Aid, Ben & Jerry's, and CVS. Other than that, the downtown area is filled with unique restaurants and shops. If you're in the Downtown Ann Arbor area, just stroll round...you'll find something that appeals to you!
World Famous Zingerman's Delicatessen
My FIRST Slurpee! Let's just say, I had a few more before the week was out.
My first visit to an actual Ben & Jerry's shop! I grabbed the typical vanilla and cookie dough flavors!
The "Carnivore" pizza from The Jolly Pumpkin in downtown Ann Arbor. DELICIOUS!!!
After my arrival and quick tour of Kerrytown and some of downtown Ann Arbor, Aerial took me on an amazing tour of the University of Michigan's huge and lovely campus. Our first stop was the student union. The student union had this old-timey feel to it. Imagine the school in Dead Poets Society and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Lots of hand carved woodwork, heavy doors, and tons of twists and turns.
AMAZING stained glass windows in the student union.
Mid-week, we headed out to Nichols Arboretum on campus. For all my readers who love peonies, you would've died! Peonies were in full bloom everywhere!

We made our way down the arboretum trails and ended up here! It's been years since I've been near a river, so taking some time to sit and reflect near the peaceful waters was definitely relaxing.
Be sure to stop by later this week for part 2 of my weeklong Michigan trip!
