Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far! This weekend is just what I need to recover from "the worst baking day ever". I've picked up a new hobby and actually made it out of the house this weekend. Take a peek at some of the photos I snapped of my weekend happenings!
It's summertime, so it's grilling time! I bought my parent's a Williams-Sonoma Grill Master book a few days ago, and believe me, it's part of my summer reading list. I've recently been using a Guy Fieri pre-seasoned cast iron steak plate that allows me grill indoors. My mom bought it for me a little after my birthday in February and I've been using it nearly almost everyday since. I feel seasoned enough with my steak plate, so I'm headed to the charcoal grill now!
Once my coals settled, I separated the coals to a 'hot' side and a 'medium heat' side. Chicken and steak seared on the hot side, while my sweet corn grilled on the medium heat side.
I gave my fresh sweet corn a quick rub down with olive oil and sprinkled seasoning salt and pepper for the first 10- 15 minutes on the grill.
I used a New Orleans marinade, additional spices, and added a touch of honey and cinnamon sugar to give the chicken great flavor. I glazed the chicken the last few minutes on the grill with a simple bbq sauce I had at home. I made sure to sear the chicken on the hot side and let the sweet corn slowly cook on the medium heat side.
After about 10 minutes, I rubbed some seasoned butter and sprinkled some parmesan cheese on top before I put it back on the grill for another 10-15 minutes. Just be sure to turn the corn over from time to time.
After we finished our meals, we made out way to the Montgomery Biscuits baseball game. Yes, they are really called the Biscuits. I remember when I was in middle school, the owners who recently purchased the team put an add in the paper to name the team. I'm pretty sure I wanted to name them something that was in the 'M' realm, but Biscuits won out.
It was a double header since Friday night's game was rained out. I'd never been to a baseball game before and I was so excited. Even the 90 degree heat didn't get down. I bought tickets for my stepdad, brother and myself. I begged my mom to go, but she declined. Needless to say, after we told her how awesome our new seats were (I bought row 13 tickets and got to exchange them for row 4 tickets. Score!) and how much fun we had, she plans on joining us next time.
Aren't minor league baseball team names the coolest? Biscuits vs. Wahoos!
The team mascot, Big Mo, is an anteater...that' eats biscuits...I think?
I still can't get over how great our seats were. 4th row!
Pitching practice in the bullpen.
I managed to catch a ball at the end of the first inning. I didn't know players just threw balls into the stands for the fans after the outs.
How cute is the biscuit logo?
I really enjoyed my weekend. I've been cooped up at home for a little over a month now, and the job hunting and house cleaning gets repetitive, but I'm remaining diligent and up-beat. I know once I get a job, I'll miss this down time I'm currently taking for granted. :) I hope all of you have a great afternoon! Be sure to stop by later this week as I highlight some great gift options for Father's Day.
