I've only been back from out west for a week now, but I can't wait until I get the chance to go back!! I spent some time in the Altadena/Pasadena and Los Angeles areas during the first leg of my trip and spent the last few days in San Diego. Today I'll be recapping my time in Los Angeles with lots of photos and go to place. Enjoy!
I'd had this California trip planned since late August, so once the time finally came round to jet off, I was extremely excited. Up to this point, I'd never been west of Dallas, Texas! My flight took off mid-morning and before you know it, I was on my way to the wild, wild west.
Looking out of the window I immediately thought "this place looks like Mars!". It was a far cry from the many lush hills and pine trees I'm so use to seeing. We didn't see water again until we made our final descent into the Las Vegas area. Speaking of Vegas, am I the only one wondering how communities survive out there with so few bodies of water?
One $10.00 burrito and an hour later, I was finally on my way to California! Instead of flying into LAX I opted to fly into the smaller Bob Hope airport in Burbank, CA since it was much closer to my Airbnb. I wish i would've taken more pictures while in the air because the mountains in the Burbank/San Fernando Valley area are gorgeous!
Fresh off five hours of airplane travel!
After picking up my rental car I made sure In-N-Out Burger was my first stop. I'm kind of a picky eater and over the past three or four years, I've limited my beef consumption, so the burger wasn't all that if you ask me. Plus, I like my burgers plain-- meat, cheese, ketchup+mustard, add bacon. I decided to avoid the fries and added a small chocolate milkshake instead. Just one more thing I can check off my list! ✔︎
I mentioned that I stayed in an Airbnb during the first part of my California trip and this is a picture of it! (There are three apartments in this one building.) My host, Crystal, was so kind, extremely hospitable, and super easy to communicate with! You can check out her listing here if you plan on being in the Altadena/Pasadena area. Feel free to leave a comment below and I'll hook you up with a $20 Airbnb credit!
The next morning I was up and running by 7:30am Pacific time (which is 9:30 am Central time lol). Whenever I take a trip to a new place, I always plan out a few places to eat, play, and visit. I'm a big breakfast junkie, so I scoured the internet (use Yelp!) for the perfect spot in a central place. I ended up at
Blu Jam Cafe on Melrose in Los Angeles.
Blu Jam Cafe is known for their crunchy french toast, but I opted for the blueberry pancakes and bacon. HANDS DOWN THE BEST BLUEBERRY PANCAKES I'VE EVER HAD!
After breakfast a friend an I roamed all around the Melrose Avenue area just for fun.
Had to take a pic in front of this ivy covered wall!
I fell in love with the Spanish architecture while in Southern California. Just look at this door!
Apparently these 'angel wing' murals by Colette Miller are all over Los Angeles. So lucky to have found this one on Melrose!
After roaming all around Melrose, we headed to The Grove shopping mall to kill some time. The Grove's not even five minutes away from Melrose, so be sure to stop by while in the area. The Grove is super shopper friendly and plays host to bug name stores like Nordstrom, The Nike Store, Zara and Topshop. I don't have pockets deep enough to shop in Nordstrom but I did pick up a few items from The Nike Store and Barnes & Noble. Plus, I saw Sicario while at The Grove--if you haven't seen it yet, GO!
Couldn't leave without grabbing a cupcake from Sprinkles!
Drove through the Westlake area on my way to the Dodgers playoff game!
While in LA, do as the Los Angelians, right? It was the first game of the Dodgers-Mets playoff series and I thoroughly enjoyed myself!
Dodger Stadium has all these cute bobble heads throughout the park! Their heads really do bobble!
And how could I leave Dodger Stadium without snapping a picture of their 18 ft foam finger?!
My first day in Los Angeles was literally just the beginning of an insanely exciting and rewarding weekend. Stop by the blog later this week as I chronicle the rest of my time in Southern California!
