It's mid-day and I'm just now updating the blog! No Monday Musings today, but I am excited to recap my weekend for you all! Once I leave work on Friday evening, I have absolutely no intentions of leaving the house until the next Monday morning. And on Saturdays I'm tucked in bed under the covers watching BPL soccer or headed to a puppy training class at PetSmart. But instead of being cooped up in the house all weekend long, I actually stayed out quite a bit.
It was homecoming week at work and the alumni concert featured the legendary Chaka Khan. Lucky for me (and the rest of he university staff & faculty) I received a free ticket to the concert, so I decided to go. I've got a bit of an old soul and "Sweet Thing" by Chaka Khan is one of my favorite songs, so I was eager to hear her. Long story short, her performance didn't wow me. Well, thank goodness the ticket was free!
(super grainy picture...way to go iPhone 5s)
You can check out a clip of her performance on my Instagram profile.
Even though Chaka Khan's performance didn't live up to my expectations, I can at least say "I've seen Chaka Khan live". Mom and I did actually stay until the end and made it back home around 11:00 pm.
My Saturday was booked to say the least. Saturday morning started with a little bit of soccer. BPL soccer is back after a few weeks off due to international friendlies. A little background for you, I've only been watching soccer since the World Cup this past summer. Because of Team USA's success in Rio, and not to mention, the wide variety of men playing, I'm constantly searching for games on t.v. and online.
After soccer, mom and I took Steeler to PetSmart for his puppy training graduation!! They have this cute little graduation cap you strap on to the puppy's head, but Mr. Steeler was not having it. He actually had some puppy anxiety, so he wasn't able to complete the obstacle course. Instead, our trainer recommended purchasing a calming toy. It's just a little fluffy lavender scented chew toy for him to play with. The lavender scent is suppose to help calm his nerves. It's been working a little bit, but mom will be taking him to the vet tomorrow just to make sure everything is A-Okay with Steeler baby.
After all of that, I had to come home, change, and hit the road for a two hour drive to Cullman, AL for a good friend/classmate's wedding!! If you've kept up with my blog from the beginning, you know I didn't make it to Iris' wedding in Annapolis, MD this past summer, so I was super happy I could make it up to Shanna's this past weekend.

Newlyweds!! (sorry about the grainy pics. iPhone, you have failed me.)
And what's a wedding without the Cupid Shuffle !?
The wedding venue was quite beautiful. Set out on a farm, the happy couple wed in the cutest little chapel and we all enjoyed ourselves at the reception just a few yards away. The menu boasted pork roast, parmesan crusted chicken, the venue's Stone Bridge Farm fries (fries loaded with sour cream, cheese and bacon), steamed veggies and mac and cheese. Plus, they had a huge fruit and veggie assortment and an OPEN BAR!!! Drinks from the bar came in these custom cups (great wedding favors) with the bride and groom's name, wedding date, and the cutest caption -- "Today, we are kind of a big deal!". And did I mention they had a photo booth?!?!?! Whaaaaa! So awesome!!!
Even though I didn't hit the dance floor, I was so excited to see my former classmates and good friends! We're so spread out now and we're all doing our own things, so we decided to take a trip together once a year.
I you all had just as much fun as I did this past weekend!! I know everyone is revving up for Thanksgiving this Thursday and the start of the holiday shopping season. Be sure to stop by the blog as I share a few recipes and another upcoming weekend adventure!! Have a great Monday!
