Valentine's Day is right around the corner and let's face it, you're either anticipating where you're guy is taking you for dinner or you've already decided to eat your weight in chocolate on your couch by yourself. The latter was definitely an option until I decided to give up sweets for Lent (that's 40 days/nights!). Fun fact about me: I've never been in a legitimate relationship before. Of course there are those two or three "situationships" where we're on the road to exclusivity but don't quite make it. But as far as being introduced as a "girlfriend", never. And I'm okay with that. So with only a few days until Singles Awareness Day, I wan't to reach out to all my single ladies and help you understand "How To Be Single".
As a single lady, it's okay to be selective. Whether it's picking a seat on a flight or deciding which movie to watch I try to remember that my choice will have some sort of impact. For example, if I choose a seat at the very back of the plane, I know I can't recline. Or if I opt for a scary movie over a comedy, I know I won't be able to sleep that night (I don't like scary movies!). Same thing goes for relationships! Honestly, if a guy asks me for my number now I react completely different than I did a even just a year ago. A year ago I would have given the guy-whether I'm interested or not- my number just to be nice. Nowadays, no ma'am! I just give them a polite "no, you can't have my number". No use in wasting your time texting/talking with someone you're not interested in!
Confidence Is Key
This kind of just speaks for itself am I right? In today's superficial, social media driven world it can sometimes be hard to see the beauty in your authenticity. Ladies, be confident in who you are! I've learned that I really, really like who I am and who I am becoming. Confidence exudes from within! So before you leave the house today, look in the mirror and tell yourself how amazing you are! Being confident in yourself is so vital when you're single! Our minds will try to confuse us by allowing us to think we're not good enough for someone but the truth is, we are! Don't let being single make you think you're not fit for a relationship with someone special. It'll all fall into place in perfect timing.
Because if you can't love yourself, then how do you expect for someone else to do the same? Love yourself from the inside out--that means treating your body well, keeping your mind in a good space, and enjoying this space in life right now! Just because you're single doesn't mean you're not lovable! Love yourself first before you give some guy the chance!
Embrace Your Singleness!
The best rule of all! I'm 89% certain we will not die as old spinsters (YAY!!!). Our future husbands are out there somewhere...they just haven't found us yet. Personally, I am not ready to be in a committed relationship with someone. I'm too selfish! The single life is fun right now! I'm not doing the whole "dating around" thing but instead I'm doing the aforementioned items. I'm being selective with whom I give my time to, building my confidence and truly loving this amazing young woman I am becoming. Plus, you don't have to go seeking out a man. Men are very animalistic-- if he wants you, he will find you!
So single ladies, this Valentine's Day be true to yourself. Like my favorite quote says, "Do your squats, eat your vegetables, wear red lipstick, and don't let boys be mean to you". Enjoy your Valentine's Day single ladies! Don't eat too many chocolates, don't text your ex (drunk or sober), and don't dry heave every time you see a couple walking around holding hands. You will be ok! Instead, go home, kick up your feet and enjoy your own personal bottle of bubbly worry free!
