4th of July is one of my absolute favorite holidays! The food, firework shows and just being surrounded by good friends and family on a summer night...ahh...I love it. Since I'm heading out o visit family tomorrow for a delectable BBQ, I decided I should bring a sweet and simple treat for everyone to enjoy.
I found this sugar cookie online and was a little skeptical about it at first. But, I had to use it, because it was the only recipe I could find that would allow me to use only the ingredients I had at home. I've come to the realization, that I'm never really prepared when I start baking. I just pick out a recipe and get going, step by step, not stopping until I realize I'm short on 'this' or I've run out of 'that'.
And like always, I typically add my own spin to any new recipe I work with. I figured, this recipe was easy enough, so I could liven it up some. I added in both red and white gel food coloring, let it chill for about an hour, and then got to work creating some fun & funky designs. Check out the recipe below and have fun making this simply sweet and festive treat.
Makes 4 1/2 dozen.
*I omitted step 4. Instead, I divided the dough into three sections, coloring one red and the other blue. I then set the dough in a bowl, covered with plastic wrap and let chill in the fridge for about an hour. Once I removed it from the fridge, I was free to create whatever designs and patterns I felt like doing.
