Happy Friday loves! I finally made use of my iMovie app and put together this quick little mashup from some of my time in New York a few weeks ago. It's just a quick glimpse into what I did while I was there for a week.
I plan on doing a financial break down of my trip as well as a more "Where To..." posts highlighting some spots in the city. I hope you all have a great upcoming Memorial Day weekend! I'm officially headed to my internship next week and will be away from home working for the next two and a half months, so wish me luck!
Honestly, why go to Tulum if you're not going to visit the beach?! Since we stayed in the city we took a quick taxi to the numerous beach hotels/clubs every other day while we were there. My favorite beach clubs are Hotel Poc Na and Papaya Playa Project.
There are two areas you can shop at in Tulum - the beach/hotel district and the city. If you've got some cash to spend, head on over to the beach/hotel district! There are so many different, unique boutiques to shop within La Placita shopping center. Many of them sell swimsuits, handcrafted leather goods, fragrances, home goods, and minimalistic style clothing. The items are a bit on the pricier side but many of the shops accept major credit cards.

One of my favorite shops on the beach is Hoki Poki Kana. It's run by a nice French lady who splits her time between France and Tulum. She use to work in the fast-paced fashion industry and decided to step away for a more relaxing lifestyle. You can find some amazing pieces from Love for Lemons and locally sourced products like candles and perfumes. I actually picked up a candle, Valladolid 1547, by Mexican company Sandovalis. They also make perfumes and soaps!

Further up the road, we popped into De La Rosa. They had one of the most beautiful and multi-colored blazers I have ever seen - think of Joseph's Coat of Many Colors but more chic. They also have numerous jewelry options made from various metals, including Mexican silver. De La Rosa does have a website you can check out, but their inventory in store is far more plentiful.
I bought my family chocolates at the visitor center after we finished our tour of the ancient Tulum ruins. They also have a shopping market on sight where you can buy practically anything-- full on tourist trap! Buy a few trinkets if you feel compelled but don't let them trap you in. This location and every other street shop in Tulum sells the same thing -- handmade colorful blankets, US major league team themed items, and lots of other handcrafted items.
I ended up grabbing three of these hand painted Pittsburgh Steelers skulls in the city. I had to go almost to the end of the main street to find them! I was able to bargain with the shop owner and get all three for about $20-$30 US dollars! Roaming around the city we ended up purchasing handcrafted hurraches at Amore Latino, a sassy striped swimsuit from Calas Tulum boutique, and Sandovalis perfume from
in the beach/hotel district.

If you're fine with sharing a collectivo with about eight other people, take the 60 minute ride into Playa del Carmen to shop at one of the many shopping malls home to both international and American shopping stores! I did some major damage at Zara (this top, these jeans, and a that killer hat pictured earlier). They also had a Bershka, Old Navy, and Nike as well. There are plenty of opportunities to grab a fresh smoothie or tasty meal downstairs in the cafeteria.
And let's not forget the numerous shops in the departure wing of the airport! High end stores, Mexican chocolates, and tequila are pretty easy to find. For more info on where to shop in Tulum, read this article by Travel + Leisure!
