Happy Friday my loves! The weekend is finally here! Last Friday I spent the entire day in Los Angeles to cap off my New Year's vacation in California and I want to share it with you all.
After ringing in 2016 in downtown Palm Springs, I left town and headed west to the City of Angels! Los Angeles is about two hours out from Palm Springs (with little traffic) and New Year's day was the perfect day to make the drive.
But before I got too far out on the freeway, I made a quick stop in the little town of Cabazon, CA to check out the Cabazon Dinosaurs! Ya'll, I'm a kid at heart, so snapping pictures with these giants was so much fun! Cabazon Dinosaurs is actually like a little museum but I didn't have time to visit the inside. You can actually walk to the top of the 4-story T-Rex!
Look how big it is!
I knew I only had the day to spend in LA before heading back to Palm Springs late that night, so I packed my day with things to do. First stop-- Amoeba Music on Sunset Blvd.!
I got a Crowley record player for Christmas in 2014 and I'm slowly trying to build my vinyl LP collection. I found Amoeba Music when mapping my route from Palm Springs to LA and knew I needed to check it out. Amoeba Music is massive! They have books, movies, and tons of other music memorabilia. I picked up John Mayer's Paradise Valley LP and was so, so tempted to grab Adele's 25 album too...but I resisted. I do have some self control. The store is massive, so be sure to set aside some time to explore!
Afterwards, I strolled around the Hollywood area (Sunset Blvd., Hollywood & Vine) and snapped a few photos of the area trying to not look too touristy!
And a few minutes north of LA is Burbank, CA where the Warner Bros. Studio is located! I splurged on a tour of the studio sound stages and back lots and had an absolute blast! The studio tour is two to three hours long and you get soooooo much access! My group's tour guide, Noah, is crazy knowledgable and so much fun-- but I'm thinking most of the tour guides are!
Throughout the tour, you get to see so many places and exciting moving elements! At the end of the guided tour there's an awesome interactive area where you can take pictures on the retired set of Friends (for free!), ride a Quiddittch broom in front of a green screen, and shop for souvenirs in the gift shop.
Some of my favorite stops of the tour included checking out the Batmobiles from the Batman movie series. The cars are insane works of art!
This is the "Screamer" and will be in the newest Batman movie staring Ben Affleck. Never in my life have I stared at a car until I saw this! It's so well-crafted and the whole concept of it is mind blowing! It's called the "Screamer" because it literally screams when it takes off!
This was fun too! You don't actually get to wear the Sorting Hat, but the staff are willing to let you sit on the stool and hold the hat over your head for you if you want a picture. Firmly believing I'd be sorted into the House of Gryffindor. If you're even slightly interested in the Harry Potter series, be sure to check out the second floor of the archives building!
Here I am sitting on the actual Friends couch! This is towards the end of the tour in the interactive session and you get 3 pictures on it! Just hand over your camera or cell phone and the attendant will snap them for you!
After three hours at Warner Brothers, I made my to downtown LA to watch the Lakers take on the 76ers! I bought the tickets about a month in advance thinking I'd be able to see Kobe Bryant play in his element, but unfortunately he sat out the game due to soreness. I was so bummed when I found out just minutes before tip-off that he wasn't playing but I still enjoyed the game.
Even though Kobe didn't play in the game, I still rely enjoyed myself. Los Angeles isn't my favorite city but I definitely loved starting the year in a new place doing fun things!
Have an amazing weekend!
