In my opinion, 36 hour trips are the most fun. That's exactly how much time I spent in St. Louis, Missouri a few weeks ago. You try your hardest to jam-pack everything you want to do, see, and eat in this teeny-tiny time frame and hope for the best!
This, my dear readers is the Mississippi River. Of course I've flown over it a couple of times when traveling West, but I've never flown directly over it. Fun fact: St. Louis sits right on the edge of the Mississippi--that's why I was able to get such a good picture!
I met up with my sorority sister/freshmen year roommate for a weekend full of sight-seeing and a World Cup qualifier match at Busch Stadium. She'd never been to a pro soccer game before so it was fun showing her how much fun they are! When we were planning this trip we were looking for hotels and Airbnbs within walking distance of the stadium to help keep transportation costs low. We made an impulse decision (because soccer fans are quick when booking hotels!) and booked a room at the Union Station Hotel. It's hands down the coolest and nicest hotel I've stayed in to date! It's a hotel in a former train station!
*You can take the Metro from Lambert Airport for about $2. It's just shy of a 20-30 minute ride depending on your departure time. Just be sure to hop off at the Union Station stop, walk up the stairs from the platform and you'll be at the back of the hotel!
I'm guessing it's a Double Tree thing, but they give you warm chocolate chip cookies when you check in!!
This location also has a light show each night!
We were so hungry after doing a little bit of shopping, so we stopped into The Cheesecake Factory for a late dinner. This was my very first time eating there and I had to get the fried macaroni and cheese. 1) They're huge! So sad I couldn't finish them all 2) They're one of the best things I've ever tasted! 3) I'm searching for the exact recipe so I can recreate this perfect meal!
We started Friday morning super early (like 8:30 am!) by visiting the Gateway Arch! We kind of struggled with out Uber to get there but we ultimately ended up hopping out of the car and walked directly to it.
The Arch is GIGANTIC! I took this pic from about 20 yards out and I still couldn't get it in the frame! Also, you have to go through two security check points, plus a reservation check in to get to the lifts, so be sure to make your reservation online and well in advance-- it's serious stuff, people!
You have to ride in this little white pod that seats 5 to get to the top of the arch. Once the lift stops, you walk up a few steps to finally get to the observation deck. The very middle is leveled out but be careful when viewing from the side windows since the floor is sloped!
The view from the top is literally stunning. You can see all of Downtown St. Louis and both sides of the Mississippi River.
Here's a panoramic pic from the viewing window.
Tip top of the arch!
After we made our way down from the Arch, we headed East in Downtown to the super funky and tasty restaurant called Rooster for breakfast.
I filled up on the Farmer's Platter with wheat toast and a cup of green tea with honey. SO. GOOD.
After loading up on breakfast, we hopped in an Uber and headed over to Anheuser Busch for
the Day Fresh Brewery Tour! Tickets are less than $20 and you get 3 beer samples of your choice (completely optional!) + a take home goodie bag!
After a packed morning and a couple of beers, we headed back to our hotel to recharge for that night's soccer game.
The US Men's National team took on St. Vincent & The Grenadines in World Cup Qualifying play. The energy was electric and Busch Stadium was jammed packed! We got tickets on the second level slightly over home plate with a perfect view of the field and Downtown.
St. Vincent & The Grenadines got off to a running start and scored first, but ultimately the US came back and finished the match with a 6-1 victory!
Here we are!
We had an absolute blast in St. Louis during our quick trip! Can't wait to visit again!
